Some background…
Asda have always been very active in their fundraising for the BBC Children in Need appeal, and 2009 was no different. This promotion aimed to get parents working together with their budding young chefs to cook their own Pudsey-themed biscuits to sell in order to raise money.
The mechanics…
In the 3 weeks leading up to the main BBC Children in Need Appeal Day (20th November), Asda stores gave out free ‘Bake Pudsey Bear’ kits which contained a Pudsey Bear cutter, recipe leaflet and MONP coupons for baking products and a donation form. Shoppers and their children were encouraged to bake the biscuits and sell them to friends and family. For every individual who returned back to store with a donation form and a minimum of £5 raised from their baked-biscuits, Asda gave them a voucher that they were able to exchange for a free Pudsey treat worth £1.
Umbrella worked with Asda on how to manage the risk of higher than anticipated redemptions on the free Pudsey treat giveaways.
